Settlement Layer — Why Not XLM. Jake Claver in this recording: “Talk about tokenization XLM not affecting anything and it's not the main thing XRP is being used for.”
What this recording covers
Claver clarifies why he views tokenisation activity on Stellar as separate from the question of settlement. He acknowledges that several exchanges are tokenising stocks on Stellar, but points out that back-end settlement between clearing houses and brokers, via a project developed with an enterprise blockchain firm and finalised in 2022, uses XRP as the primary settlement mechanism. Claver also raises a technical concern about Stellar: the origin account for its blockchain has not been made permanently immutable, which means there is uncertainty about whether the native asset could be frozen, clawed back, or reissued. He argues that any asset used for neutral settlement must be free of counterparty risk, and notes that assets prefixed with X share that property.
